The story behind The Brenham Buzz

De Wayne Mortensen II, REALTOR® — Licensed in Texas and California — is the curator and host of The Brenham Buzz and a Sales Associate with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Hometown. Licensed in two states, he brings more than 20 years of experience helping people buy and sell property in Texas and California.

Before Real Estate

Before becoming a REALTOR®, De Wayne served honorably in the U.S. Navy as a Tactical Air Traffic Controller and Reserve Instructor. He is proud to have maintained a Top Secret Clearance throughout his service to our country. Following his military service, he earned a degree in Business Administration, followed by three years of law school at the American Institute of Law.

Building a Career

After law school, De Wayne worked as a Community Sales Representative for America's largest home builder. He later managed and served as Broker of Record for a real estate franchise with 107 agents. That experience managing a large team gives him a unique perspective on every transaction, whether he's helping a first-time buyer or negotiating a complex deal.

He brings with him a vast array of real estate-focused problem-solving techniques and related life knowledge that allow him to expertly guide clients through their real estate ventures.

Community Leadership

De Wayne and his wife Teresa are active members of Toastmasters International, having co-founded the Brenham Toastmasters Club. Toastmasters is an international organization helping people become better speakers and leaders, and the club meets every Monday night from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM (starts on time, ends on time) at the Brenham Police Department, 1800 Longwood Drive. The club does not meet on holidays.

De Wayne also serves as a Blue Blazer with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, welcoming new businesses through ribbon cuttings and community events. Creating The Brenham Buzz is a natural extension of that community commitment. De Wayne saw a need for a single, reliable source of everything happening in Brenham and Washington County, and he built it.

Off the Clock

In his off time, De Wayne enjoys spending time with his wife and family, golfing, and sourdough bread making. His approach to life mirrors his approach to real estate: patient, methodical, and committed to quality.
