About City Council

The Brenham City Council is the governing body of the City of Brenham, Texas. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Thursday of each month at 1:00 PM in Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 200 W Vulcan Street, Brenham TX 77833.

All regular meetings are open to the public. Citizens are encouraged to attend and participate. Agendas are posted at least 72 hours before each meeting on the official City Council Agenda portal.

At its August 6, 2026 meeting, the council approved updated sanitation and recycling rates and proposed a fiscal year 2026-27 property tax rate of $0.4750 per $100 valuation. Council also amended an engineering services agreement with Strand Associates and approved a medical coverage plan agreement for the coming year. The Fiscal Year 2026-27 Proposed Budget and full meeting archives are available on the CivicClerk portal.

Council Actions & Proposals
  • Approved higher sanitation and recycling rates as requested by Brannon Industrial Group - BVR Waste and Recycling, effective for the coming fiscal year.
  • Proposed a new property tax rate of $0.4750 per $100 valuation for Fiscal Year 2026-27, including $0.3330 for maintenance and operations and $0.1420 for debt service (I&S). A public hearing will precede the final vote.
  • Amended the professional services agreement with Strand Associates for on-call engineering services, adding $35,000 for infrastructure projects.
  • Approved medical coverage plan agreements for city employees covering October 1, 2026 through September 30, 2027.
